Video of Mason crawlingI just want to repost some of the old content as I transition things over to the new website, so the videos are as good a place to start as any. I may eventually password protect these posts, but the password is the same as the photogallery one. Mason Crawling
(Winter 2002).

So the other day we went to Lowes so I could get a wrench to tighten some plumbing. The kids had been good the last few days Mason sleeping with his glow stick.and so I told them I would get them a treat. Whitney said she would buy the treats and got down a bunch of her change. So I though they would get candy or something, and so did they, until they saw the lightsticks. They immediately wanted them, but I knew it would be a waste of their money and told them so. They said it was there money so I figured I’d just go ahead and let them buy the sticks. Mason opened his right away and cracked it open. At first he was sad that it wouldn’t last forever and I wouldn’t be able to just change the batteries. But he played with it all night long until he fell asleep.

Whitney wanted to keep hers forever without lighting it up. She finally accidently lit it up so I had to go back today and get them each another one, to just sit in their drawers and never use, cause they want to save them for a special occasion.

I made a couple changes that you might be interested in. My website host offers a photo album thing, and I decided to use it because it is more secure and easier to use that managing photos myself. I’ll still put some up like the pictures of Mason’s nose, but for the time being click the link on the left for “Photo Album”. Of course then you will see the album is password protected…so you’ll have to email me for the password. Right now the featured pictures are our Christmas celebration.

Nothing got broken or lacerated this week, so that counts as a success in my book. Mason’s nose is healing pretty well, I don’t think he is going to have a scar.

But it did put a damper on Mason’s favorite activity, which is playing in the bathtub or shower. He had to go four days without getting his nose wet, which meant he had to either nor bathe at or or just quickly get washed up.

The bathroom is almost all put back together. The tile is grouted and the sink is almost in, and the toilet is ready to be put back in. Hopefully I’ll have some “after” photos to put up shortly. I have the “before” ones but they aren’t worth looking at without something to compare them to.

Its been pretty nice here lately. We had a couple huge wind storms and rain storms, but it hasn’t been very cold. It has been a pretty mild winter since just before Christmas.

Other that that it has been a pretty quiet week. Work has been going pretty good, and so has school. We got an extra week in recess because the Democrats wanted to delay the Alito vote, so that was fine by me.

I did go to lunch with an old friend from High school. I guess he isn’t “old” but we did have a good time. Steve Stroschein is his name. He is also living out here near Washington DC. We had a good time catching up and shooting the breeze, and of course talking about people back in Aberdeen.

We’ll see if anything exciting happens this week, I guess.

Just a quick update with some kind of cool pictures. We are remodeling our bathroom. I’ll post some pictures when we are done, but for the time being it is enough to know that we are putting tile down and have it all cut to the proper sizes.

The tile, when cut, has some pretty sharp edges. We planned on putting the tile on Saturday, so we laid it all out that morning in the hall in neat stacks. One thing led to another and we didn’t get it put in on Saturday after all, but since I didn’t have to work today we though we’d do it today.

So Saturday night after the lights were out I was walking down the hall and stumbled over the tile and about broke my little toe. Mason's nose before the doctorWe didn’t think anything more, until Sunday when Mason was running down the hall and we head the tile clank like he had run into it.

.He started crying, and we figured that he just stubbed his toe like I did. But it turns out he fell face first onto a sharp piece of tile. Mason's nose after the doctorHe was very brave at the emergency room and it didn’t hurt very much. He got X-rays and during the whole time was running around the hospital bouncing off the walls acting like he was on vacation and having a good time.

I blew up a rubber glove into a balloon for him to play with and he was causing a ruckus with it. He got nervous when the doctors were looking him over and during the X-ray, but never did cry once we got to the hospital. Instead of stitches, the doctor just put this dermabond stuff on his nose which seems to be doing a good job.

And today we got the tile in so it won’t happen again.

As Whitney and Mason’s cousin Abby recently pointed out, two months is kind of a long time to go without an update, so I hope I can remember everything that has been going on. It must have been a busy couple months to prevent me from updating the site.

Well one of the things we did was have some more visitors. Heidi’s mom, dad and sister flew out and stayed for a week. They visited the monuments and had a pretty good time. We were going to replace a door in our house but once again got delayed.

During part of the time they were here, I was in Idaho. We had our staff retreat in Sandpoint. It was nice to get back to Idaho for a few days, and we had a pretty good time.

We continued the tradition we started a few years ago by putting together another gingerbread house. The kids have just as much fun sneaking pieces of candy as the do actually working on the gingerbread house. The kids working on the gingerbread houseThey both like to squeeze the frosting out of the tube. In the end it turned out pretty well, considering all the candy that went missing during the construction phase.

We also had some patches of good weather. We took a day and went exploring when I had a day off of school and went down to the river. Taking a walk along the riverThere are quite a few trails down there and lots of sand to play with. We ended up quite a ways down the river, stopping at every patch of sand along the way.

One of the interesting things that I didn’t include a picture of is Whitney’s teeth. She lost a tooth one day when I was at work, and Heidi later went out that evening and she pulled out another tooth. So she lost two teeth in one day and was pretty excited for the tooth fairy to come that night and bring her a load of money.

I had my finals and still don’t know how they went. I won’t get my grades until sometime after classes begin. But it was nice to enjoy the time after class ended when I didn’t have to be studying all evening long and could get home at a decent hour.

The kids started getting excited for Christmas about a month in advance. We got our tree right after Thanksgiving, and it was big and bushy. Mason and Whitney helped decorate it of course, and put lots of lights up around the house and in their rooms. Mason opening his dinosaurWhen Christmas finally did get here, they mostly got what they had asked Santa for. Mason got a dinosaur, which is all he talks about these days. He also got another dinosaur and another dinosaur and…you get the point.

Whitney got some Barbie supplies and the Magic of Pegasus, along with some Polly Pocket stuff and various other toys.

We did have some snow during December. Whitney got three of four snow days, since everytime there is white stuff on the ground they call off school. But she certainly doesn’t mind.
