So a few weeks ago I found out that you can burn in Stafford County after 4:00 p.m., and ever since have been looking for the perfect opportunity to set something ablaze. We have since pulled up a bunch of dead shrubbery, plus cleared out some fallen branches and dead wood from the forest, and so I thought it would make a great fire.
I also cut down a tree I hated that was planted kind of in the middle of the back yard, but the stump wouldn’t die. It kept sprouting little twigs, and even though I mowed them they kept coming back. I think you can see where this is headed.
So I piled the brush and debris on top of the stump and invited Dan and Chelsey down from work. We also had a little Farming Game to catch up on, since I came in last the previous time we played, clearly a fluke.
Now since it had been raining for days leading up to the fire, accelerant was needed, so I put gas on the pile. Almost three dollars worth of gas, actually. Probably enough gas that even had we not burned the pile, it still would have killed the stump. With a satisfying “Whoooosh!” the fire roared to life, and that’s when we looked up and saw that I had misjudged the height to which the fire might rise. It was nipping at the branches of the trees above it, so we were lucky and had the hose ready to go. We sprayed down the tree branches, and doused the fire itself a little to quiet it down.
It all turned out OK, except I lost The Farming Game again, and Chelsey one even though the only thing she bought was hay. That is pretty much unprecedented, seeing as how hay is the most worthless thing you can buy in The Farming Game. But she landed on “Double your hay harvest” every single time, and even quadrupled it a couple times. She ended up with more cash than anyone else had between cash and assets.
