Yellowstone and Transformers
Posted by Jason under General , Jason , Heidi , Whitney , MasonNo Comments
Just thought I would post a couple more pictures from Yellowstone. The waterfall was pretty big and kind of close to the road. Both the kids were scared to go near it, but we eventually talked them into it.
On a completely unrelated note, Mason got a brochure of different ways to paint his room from Lowes. He decided he wanted to make his room into a transformer, like it could be a robot one day and a spaceship the next. I wish I could see inside his head. He told me he would make it into a clubhouse that didn’t allow girls in, and it would be a lion, and it would eat the clubhouse that the girls (meaning Whitney mainly) built.

Whitney has talked about running a lemonade stand for a long time. Finally, one day she just made a sign up and asked me if I could help her. Since she had spent so much time on the sign and it looked so nice, and since she asked me so nicely I said yes.
So we went out this morning to the grocery store and bought supplies. Kool-Aid, ice and cups. We already had sugar. We got back and Whitney mixed up the drinks and I set up the lemonade stand. Heidi made some cookies as well.
The sale started off well, we were charging 25 cents per glass (and we got the big, 18 ounce glasses) but most people gave us a dollar. I think at the end of the day we had had about 15 customers, and made like $8.50. One kid told us he liked supporting small businesses.
After a couple of hours, Whitney got kind of hot and so we closed up shop, but she took some cookies over to the neighbors house–and didn’t even charge them.

Last Friday we went to the Museum of Natural History. This is a good place for us to visit because it has a lot of different things. Mason really likes the dinosaur bones and things like that, while Whitney likes some of the pretty gemstones. Like the crown that she wanted to take a picture of. She also likes the mammals. They both had a really good time looking at the bones and stuffed animals. There are also a lot of insects, snakes, and bugs there right now too, that are alive. So the kids got to see those things too.

This past Saturday was the Stafford County Discovery Days Festival, part historic recreation part craft fair. We went to it because we thought it would be fun and they had one of the Godspeed replica boats on dispay. And by that I mean it was sailing around about a half mile from shore. You could take a pontoon boat ride out near it for a fee.
Anyway, we did have a good time. The kids made a couple fun things and the boat was kind of cool. Plus they shot off a cannon that was really loud. The favorite part was the kis made these little tiny wooden sail boats they can sail around in the sink.

When we were in Idaho, the day we were leaving, one of my mom and dad’s cats had kittens. The kids are always excited to see brand new kittens, but I don’t think they had ever seen ones that had been born that very day.
So they thought they were pretty lucky to be able to hold kittens that were only an hour or so old.
On an unrelated note, the other day Mason said to me, “Dadu, can you build me a scarecrow so I can practice my killing with my sword?” And then he did all sorts of martial arts motions with his “ancient monkey sword” that he found in the backyard.
