Last week Mason got an assignment to give a talk in Church this week. The topic was supposed to be on Promises. He really didn’t want to give the talk, so we enticed him into it by telling him he could talk about Daniel and the Lion’s Den, and take his toy lions and wear his lion costume.

He practiced his talk every night the entire week, and was actually pretty excited to give it. So when it was his turn, the microphone was turned up very loud and kind of freaked him out, the other kids laughed and that was the end of that. But he came home and acted it out again. This is just an old video from when we lived in Boise. I found it on our hard drive and thought I would post it. It is kind of funny, because it has the famous crazy Mason crawling. (He never learned how to crawl “right”). Plus it has Whitney spelling her name and doing some gymnastics tricks. Mason was probably 1 or so, and Whitney 3 or so, depending on when this was filmed during our time in Boise.

shoesI did something I hadn’t done since 1999 the other day. I bought a new pair of shoes. Even though they aren’t exactly the same (see how there is no ridge around the toe) they are pretty similar.

One thing you might notice is that the new shoe seems bigger than the old shoe. It is. The old shoes were too small. But I still wore them for 7 years because they had gone out of style and I don’t like new styles of shoes.

I still have my brown pair of shoes that look alike, and I even have a back-up pair of brown shoes in a box. I thought the back up pair was black, which would have negated the need to buy my new pair, but when I looked at them the other day I saw they were brown.

Here is the video of us at Dinosaur Land. Its about eight and a half minutes long. This is mostly just a video of the kids running around Dinosaur Land and their reactions to seeing it, but there is some background shots of the dinosaurs as well. One of the funniest parts happens around 2:38 or so, when Mason is pretending to have a horn and runs into something.

dinolandWe thought we would do something fun today, and it seemed like the perfect time to visit one of America’s great roadside attractions. A few weeks ago I read an article in USA Today about Dinosaur Land. It is a combination prehistoric park/tourist trap that is probably about as accurate as a first grade science project, but the kids loved it. Judging by the number of other families there, other kids like it as well.

It has fiberglass replicas of many of the most famous dinosaurs, along with their scientific names and a few facts about them. There are also a few crazy things like a model of King Kong and a giant octopus. The timing was perfect because Mason has been watching this video about a “megalodon” or prehistoric giant shark. Although he calls it a “megaloover”. And sure enough, they have a 60 foot giant shark there that the kids can climb inside. Click “more” for the full photo album…about 50 pictures from inside the park. (more…)

A few weeks ago we took a Saturday and headed up North to the National Zoo in Washington, DC. It was a great day and perfect weather. We took the Metro and did quite a bit of walking, but the kids never did complain until we were almost all the way back to the Metro after walking through the zoo.

It is a big zoo with a lot of animals. The only bad part was that we didn’t get to see everything–the kids really wanted to see the Komodo dragons but they weren’t around and the place was closing so we had to leave. But most (more…)
