April 2007

IMG_2670.JPGI’ve been thinking about getting a motorcycle when I was done with law school because I was thinking it would be a lot quicker to get to work and back without having to pick up slugs. Some days it could save me a half hour each way. Even on good days, it would save 15 minutes each way. Heidi told me I might as well get one now so I could get home earlier during the summer, so I started looking.

I wanted something that handled well, was dependable and had enough power to get me back and forth on I-95, so I narrowed it down to a few choices. I found a bike nearby that only had 1000 miles on it and was a 2006, so I went and looked at it and it was in good shape, so I bought it. Its a Suzuki Katana 600. (Yes, as Whitney noticed today I have a black Suzuki motorcycle and a black Suzuki car). Following in my tradition, it was a repossessed bike. The only thing it is missing is a tiger striped seat, but until then, this picture has to suffice. We all went for rides on it today.

Mason had his second baseball game today. He again did really well. He chased after every ball that was hit, and got to throw it to first a couple times. Once again he got to hit twice and he hit it well both times. You can see the ball going up in one of the pictures. The way the kids bad is they all bat twice. Mason is the lead off hitter the first inning; then they reverse the order the second inning, so Mason is the last batter. The rules seem to be that the kids can only get singles, and they can only get thrown out at first. So even if the ball is hit to third, and it is a force out, the kid can’t just tag the bag. He must throw it to first.

So when the last batter is up, they have to throw the ball to first. But since it is the last batter, instead of just ending the inning with someone on first, if he doesn’t get thrown out at first he can keep running the bases and they can keep trying to throw him out. So the point is, the only way you can get a home run is to be the last batter and not get thrown out at first. Mason was able to get a home run in this fashion today and it was pretty fun for him.

One of the things we did for Whitney’s birthday (so yes, these pictures are old) is go to Funland. We had a pretty good time there. Whitney loved going to all the games and playing air hockey. She also like the go carts. It was probably a little better than going to Chuck E Cheese, which was one of the options at one time. Both the kids still talk about the next time they get to go to Funland.

Here is the video of Mason’s first baseball game. Mason did a really good job at his first game. He hit the ball pretty good both times he was up, and the second time he hit it the ball went all the way out into the outfield. He made a couple good throws and generally was very excited to be there. He is finally realizing that playing baseball is fun, and is looking forward to his next game and practice.

Mason has been wanting a fort/clubhouse for a while. He converted an old dresser into a fort, but it was not surprisingly too small. He did play in it quite a bit though, so during the Easter break I made him a better hideout.

I smoothed out a flat-ish spot on our mountain, cut stairs into the hillside and hauled a bunch of bricks and stuff up there. We ended up with a pretty cool little hideaway for the kids. We’ll have to see what happens once the greenery comes in–it should get covered up and be almost invisible from below.

Me and Mason and Whitney have been working in the backyard hill on a fort. When I was digging around, I found this huge millipede. I scooped it up and we kept it for the rest of the day as kind of a pet. This was on Friday, and as I left for school I told the kids to make sure to let it go that night before they went to bed.

I found out the next day that “Little Guy” was actually kept in a pot over night. When they went to let him go, Mason either re-captured him or just “forgot” to actually release him, because today Mason was playing with him again. I made sure they let him go this time.
