Mason and Whitney are both on the Aquia Harbour Swim Team. So they have been training for competition, even though they really haven’t had tons of swimming lessons. Mason hasn’t had any, actually, but they both like the water. The lanes are 25 yards long, and Mason can’t actually swim that far–at least he never had until today. In practice, he always had to stop part way through.

So today at their first meet they both did great. They dive in the water where it is 9 feet deep, which I though would scare both of them, but it didn’t. Each one was able to swim all the way down to the end of the lane and enjoyed the competition.

Whitney turned eight a while ago, but we waited to baptize her until more of her family could come out. So we ended up with quite a crowd, and she enjoyed every minute of it. She wanted to make sure she looked very pretty, because she remembered how nice her cousin Abby looked when she got baptized.

Both her and Mason had baseball games before her baptism, so it was very hectic, but I don’t know why she decided to look extra gloomy. She played a piano piece during the program and in general had a very good time. Probably the only thing she regrets is that afterwards, we went to Famous Dave’s to eat instead of to Chuck E Cheese. This is the program from her baptism.

raccoon We have a bunch of raccoon (or one busy one) who inhabit the woods behind our house. Lately, one has been getting into the garbage every night. It makes quite a mess. The kids think it is neat, and sometimes leave food out for it, which of course doesn’t help things much.

One night I heard it outside and cornered it under the deck, and so we all could see it peeking it head out and looking at us from across the driveway, waiting for us to go inside so it could split. Another night I sneaked around front and took a picture of it and caught it red-handed stealing our garbage. Mason made me use the picture for his wall paper on the computer, he thinks it is so cute.

Whitney was a Brownie Girl Scout this last year. She had a lot of fun and did a lot of cool things during the year. She sold a lot of cookies and enjoyed going to her meetings every week.

This week, it was time for her to advance and become a “Junior Girl Scout”. So we went to the advancement ceremony and it was very nice. The girls all sang (more…)
