While it was snowing in Idaho, we were camping out here. At about 7 o’clock last Friday night me and Heidi decided to go camping the next day. So I got on the Internet and tried to find a close place to camp. Both kids had soccer games on Saturday, so we wouldn’t be able to drive hours and hours for the trip.
After a few minutes, I found a close place: Westmoreland State Park, which is only about 65 miles away. So after the soccer games ended, we headed out.
We had a pretty nice little campsite. It was at the top of a hillside, and there was a really big tree that had gotten blown over down at the bottom of the hill. The vegetation was pretty thick and the kids played tigers, dinosaurs and other animals down there. I sneaked up on them and pretended to be a bear, and that scared them pretty good.
We had a good fire going and the kids also got to play torches. We had some steak that wasn’t very good for supper, but Heidi cooked some good Dutch oven potatoes. For breakfast, we just flipped the Dutch over lid over and cooked eggs and bacon on it.
Then we went for a hike along this trail through the woods and ended up down at a beach on the Potomac River. It was pretty neat and the kids had a good time. Along that path is when we found the other big tree that had fallen onto another tree, and we climbed up it, which is what the video is of.
The whole trip was a lot of fun. It was probably one of the few times we had ever gone camping without wind. Saturday night felt like we were camping in a soundstage or something, cause the weather was perfect, there was no wind, there were no bugs and it was completely quiet.
