June 2008

In my opinion, Heaven will look like City of Rocks.  When we go there, there’s no “vacation” about it, there’s just too much fun stuff to do – climbing (obviously), running, scrambling, exploring, building a fire, poking sticks into the fire, cooking hot dogs and marshmallows over the fire, chopping more wood for the fire (see a theme?).  We arrived at our usual familiar campsite Thursday afternoon and immediately started climbing on Practice rock.  (more…)

For work a few of us got to go on a tour of the Marine Corps Base at Quantico.

It was a lot of fun and we learned a lot. We started out shooting guns, then watched a demonstration by one of the dog handlers.

Then we went to see their night vision training facility, the museum and then we went on a boat ride. It was all pretty cool.

The other night we had a few tornadoes in Stafford County. Me and Heidi sat down on the porch to watch the storm pass by and noticed how green the sky was. There was some lighting and thunder, and it was raining pretty good.

Heidi went inside and looked at the weather report, and it said there was a tornado warning in effect, which said that there was a tornado in Stafford. I looked at the map and it showed several potential tornadoes in our neighborhood, so we had the kids get in the bathtub and I got a mattress to throw over them, just in case.

The rain got even worse, and so did the lightning, but the wind never really picked up and the tornado passed around us. Mason was starting to like hiding in the bath tub, since they were watching a movie, but Whitney was glad when the storm passed.
