A week or so ago we went on a walk on the path that winds its way through the Harbour. It is kind of a nice walk, and there is usually quite a bit of wildlife out on it, like rabbits and beavers. This time we also discovered a neat little “cave” that was made out of a tree and its branches. Its hard to see from the pictures, but the cave was almost totally obscured by grass and branches, but when we crawled back in there it was quite spacious. People could probably camp out in there if they wanted to.

The kids made it through the rest of the swim meet, and finished out the season in style. Mason ended up as a heat winner in the 25 backstroke in the 6-8 year old age group, so it was neat for him to win against some older kids. Whitney continued to improve throughout the season, and is also pretty good in the backstroke.
They are both glad to be done, as they have to swim every day for a couple months. Now they are free to just go to either of the pools here and just hang out and enjoy the water without having to worry about how fast they are swimming. The video shows Mason and Whitney doing the freestyle and backstrokes, and includes Mason’s victory.

We’ve been to City of Rocks quite a few times, and during several of those visits experienced a full moon. With the clear air and the light-colored rocks and sandy soil, it’s incredibly bright after your eyes have adjusted for a little while. An idea began floating around in my head that it would be possible to climb under a full moon, but I never got up the guts or energy to try it. (more…)

The kids are doing swimming again this year and have been having a pretty good time. Mason placed in the backstroke at one meet and Whitney has been improving her time and beating a few kids as well. She has swam the breast stroke, butterfly, back and freestyle races as well as a relay. Mason has done the butterfly, back and freestyle and also the relay. Here’s a video of Whitney swimming.

For some reason, we didn’t bring the camera along to very many of Whitney’s softball games this year. I do have a few pictures in this post, and I think I have a few more on the way. Overall, she did very good this year. She grew into a very good hitter and fielder, but she really progressed in throwing the ball. She ended up being a very accurate thrower with some decent range. She learned to keep her eye on the ball, too. Anyway, here are some pictures.
