Heidi

While it was snowing in Idaho, we were camping out here. At about 7 o’clock last Friday night me and Heidi decided to go camping the next day. So I got on the Internet and tried to find a close place to camp. Both kids had soccer games on Saturday, so we wouldn’t be able to drive hours and hours for the trip.

After a few minutes, I found a close place: Westmoreland State Park, which is only about 65 miles away. So after the soccer games ended, we headed out.

We had a pretty nice little campsite. It was at the top of a hillside, and there was a really big tree that had gotten blown over down at the bottom of the hill. The vegetation was pretty thick and the kids played tigers, dinosaurs and other animals down there. I sneaked (more…)

masonhikingWe went for another hike in the backyard yesterday. Mason just grabbed a bag, packed some stuff in in and said, “Let’s go for a hike.” So we all went along with him. It was a really nice day, so it wasn’t hot or humid at all.

One of the things we found was an area in the forest where there were a lot of (more…)

masonbasketballA couple of weeks ago we went to a George Mason University Basketball game. I get in free with my student ID, and we thought it would be fun for the kids. We were half right.

Mason had a really good time and has told me several times since, “I’m glad your team won, Daddy.” Whitney played Brickbreaker on my BlackBerry and consumed Dippin’ Dots, the Ice Cream of the Future.

I think both kids actually enjoyed getting out and doing something fun and different, and it was kind of neat to go to the game. They have a pretty nice stadium and played a decent game. (more…)

whitthanksgivingWe had a pretty good Thanksgiving. I had half a day off on Wednesday, and then Thursday and Friday so it was a long weekend for me. On Thursday, we had some friends come over for our turkey dinner, and it was good. I don’t really like turkey that much, but I eat it on Thanksgiving as long as I don’t have to pick bones and gristle out of it. And it was cooked just right and tasted good. We also had lots of other good food.

masonthanksgivingWhitney set the table and did a very good job. She decided to put on a nice dress to go along with the pretty table she made, so she enjoyed the meal as well. Mason, who loves stuffing like you can’t believe, ate quite a bit of food. But his favorite part was looking at the turkey guts.

Afterwards we played a little game of Risk. Who won? Me.

dinolandWe thought we would do something fun today, and it seemed like the perfect time to visit one of America’s great roadside attractions. A few weeks ago I read an article in USA Today about Dinosaur Land. It is a combination prehistoric park/tourist trap that is probably about as accurate as a first grade science project, but the kids loved it. Judging by the number of other families there, other kids like it as well.

It has fiberglass replicas of many of the most famous dinosaurs, along with their scientific names and a few facts about them. There are also a few crazy things like a model of King Kong and a giant octopus. The timing was perfect because Mason has been watching this video about a “megalodon” or prehistoric giant shark. Although he calls it a “megaloover”. And sure enough, they have a 60 foot giant shark there that the kids can climb inside. Click “more” for the full photo album…about 50 pictures from inside the park. (more…)

ynpJust thought I would post a couple more pictures from Yellowstone. The waterfall was pretty big and kind of close to the road. Both the kids were scared to go near it, but we eventually talked them into it.

waterfallOn a completely unrelated note, Mason got a brochure of different ways to paint his room from Lowes. He decided he wanted to make his room into a transformer, like it could be a robot one day and a spaceship the next. I wish I could see inside his head. He told me he would make it into a clubhouse that didn’t allow girls in, and it would be a lion, and it would eat the clubhouse that the girls (meaning Whitney mainly) built.
