Easter was a good time this year. Once again, the Easter Bunny found us. The kids were a little worried that the Easter Bunny would see Sassy and let her go (yes, we know Sassy is technically a boy but we mostly still call him a her) but that didn’t happen.
The eggs and candy were hidden pretty well, and there is still one egg that I saw the other day, so sometime this summer the kids will find a good surprise.

Whitney had a recital a couple weeks ago, but they didn’t allow video cameras inside, so we just recorded her playing at home. She did a very good job at the recital, although she was kind of nervous. There was a lot of people there and it was kind of a new experience for her. She actually made a small error during the live performance, but she got her scores back and got two “Superior” ratings, and both judges complemented her on the way she quickly and seamlessly recovered from the error.
She ended up doing a great job though and, as you can see, plays the piece quite well.

A couple weeks after Mason and Whitney’s award assembly, Mason was chosen as a Student of the Month. Each class chooses one or two students who demonstrate a particular trait during the month and get to go to a special breakfast one morning. Whitney was chosen last year.
Mason’s trait was courage. The other students in the class then write (or draw pictures, since this is kindergarten) about how that student shows that trait. Mason was (more…)

For President’s Day we went to Mt. Vernon to tour President Washington’s home and farm. It was pretty cool, even though we have been there before. We walked around quite a bit and I at least saw some new things, like the wheat mill. Plus they had re-enactors all over the place, and they did some military drills that were interesting.
Whitney and Mason enjoyed it for the most part, but Mason thought he was going to die from walking so far.

Mason has watched Whitney rack up all sorts of awards at school since we’ve been here, and this semester was his first chance to get an award of his own. Luckily, he was chosen as a Superstar Student so he got an award. There weren’t very many kids chosen out of his class, so I’m glad he was one of them.
Whitney also got a couple awards; she was chosen because she got two good report cards last semester. Pictures after the break. (more…)

You may notice I placed a new link in the sidebar. I kept forgetting that Neal has a website for his radio show. Neal and I have had some disagreements this election cycle about who is best qualified to be president, who is more conservative, etc–I was a big Rudy fan and he liked Mitt Romney. But at least we both can make fun of Ron Paul.
