The local paper held an essay contest to win tickets to the local showing of the Banff Mountain Film Festival show.  I think I’ve only bought tickets to half of these shows I’ve attended since I’ve won tickets several times.  So I sent in my outdoor adventure essay.  It was tough to keep it under 200 words, so it doesn’t flow really well.  But I was one of 5 winners, so I don’t care.  Here’s a shot from the paper.

We’ve had some great snowstorms in the last week or so.  Here’s the link to our Youtube video collection, including the latest one of the kids skiing down the snow pile.

Jennie and I hiked with our neighbors, Nate and Audra Hunsaker, Mark and Tina Taylor, and Ryan and Kari Reilly, up Table Mountain on the west side of the Tetons.  Lots of fun and we all survived.  Here’s a link to the video.

Last April, Jerry Painter, Mike Shaw, Paul Fairbourn, and I went on a 3-day ski tour into Alaska Basin.  We had heavy, wet snow with miserable trailbreaking on the first day but were rewarded with an absolutely spectacular second day.  The third day was mostly about survival as we skied back down the icy slopes (with awkward packs) we had spent so much time climbing just 2 days earlier.  For comparison, I’ve added photos of the same area taken at the beginning of October and mentioned in a previous post.

At least it wasn’t snowing.  Halloween weather in Idaho is usually miserable, so the kids’ costumes must be capable of covering multiple layers.  This year wasn’t so bad.  It was cold, but the wind died down and we all actually got a little warm.  Abby was a pilgrim, Caleb a wizard, Seth a ghost, and Hannah a cave girl.  They got lots of candy, most of which they sold back to Mom and Dad and bought Lego Star Wars II.
