So me and Whitney went to Baskin Robbins and got some ice cream. Her favorite is chocolate, so she had a big ice cream cone of chocolate ice cream. Afterwards, we went back to the golf place (we were on my motorcycle, by the way, which is a lot of fun to take out on nights like that) and played. Whitney ended up winning 71-84. She had a lot of fun.

The other picture is of all the tigers watching a movie on Netflix. Me and Heidi just discovered it in the living room one day and thought it was a funny picture.

Anyway, he wrote the whole story himself, and sounded out all the words all alone. So I had him read the story. (The last page doesn’t show up for some reason; I’ll have to see if I can fix that.)

He did get to play first base though, which he did pretty well at, and also when he was playing near the pitcher’s mound he got a couple balls hit to him, which he fielded well and threw to first.

We got there on Friday and no sooner had gotten the tent set up than it started to rain. And it rained hard. We were all in the tent, trying to not touch the roof or sides which would let the water in. Luckily, the tent repelled most of the water and we only had a few leaks around the corners of the tent, which we soaked up with towels.

The next day more than made up for it, however, because it was a really nice day. The weather was perfect and the sun was shining. We took our rubber boat down the river and had a lot of fun. There were a couple copperhead snakes that I found so I made a “snake stick” to try to catch one. I threaded some duct tape down through a tent pole, thinking I would lasso the snake and pull the loop tight. I only got one chance, and couldn’t quite get the loop around the snake’s neck, so after a 30 second struggle or so he got out of the loop and never came back.

We cooked some good food, but left the stuff for s’mores out one night so the critters ate all the chocolate, so we made “s’Whitneys” instead. S’Whitneys were invented on a camping trip long ago when we either forgot the chocolate to make s’mores or ate it all. But we did have Chunky Chips Ahoy and marshmallows, so we toasted them and squished them between two cookies and called the s’Whitneys, since Whitney was the one who wanted s’mores. Mason made his own version, but with different cookies.

She also went to another birthday party for a girl in her school who has the same birthday as her. That girl had a sleepover, and so Whitney got to go to her first ever sleepover. She had a lot of fun doing that. I think they stayed up most of the night.

In the video, for fans of Napoleon Dynamite, the best part is at 1:45 or so. It was totally unprompted from Mason. I wonder how long he had been planning to say that.

The eggs and candy were hidden pretty well, and there is still one egg that I saw the other day, so sometime this summer the kids will find a good surprise.

She ended up doing a great job though and, as you can see, plays the piece quite well.

Mason’s trait was courage. The other students in the class then write (or draw pictures, since this is kindergarten) about how that student shows that trait. Mason was pretty excited, and the fact that the breakfast got delayed by a snowstorm didn’t help matters much. Finally we got to go to the breakfast and see Mason receive his award.

Whitney and Mason enjoyed it for the most part, but Mason thought he was going to die from walking so far.
